As we all know . AIDS is short for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. AIDS can be contracted either through sexual intercourse, by blood transfusion, or an exchange of bodily fluids from an infected person to a non-infected person. Among these there are many different chemokines from CCR5, CCR3, CXCR4, etc… Now AIDS needs the CD4 molecule and the CCR5 protein to be present on a T-cell to successfully infect the cell. It needs the CD4 molecule to latch on to the cell. Once this is accomplished it needs the CCR5 protein to be able to get inside of the cell in order to infect it.
