Macbeth: Symbolism In Imagery

In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth theme and imagery are hopelessly interwoven in an elaborate, intricate nature that only increases in complexity as the play progresses. Three central themes/recurring images in the play are those of blood, clothing and darkness. Only through careful examination of the images do the connections become evid .... Middle of paper .... becomes obvious. Macbeth tries to justify his evil by using the rationale that it is just as easy to continue the killing as it is to stop it. Macbeth seems to be fascinated with blood. In act 3, scene 4 the word blood is used 4 times in 6 lines (151-157). Although the blood imagery is used mostly to show Macbeth’s deranged state, lines such as “It will have blood, they say; blood will have blood.” (III, 4. 151) testify that Macbeth ....
