The idea of a satellite that could produce images of a civilian Earth was first thought of in the Department of Interior in the mid-1960’s. On July 23, 1972, NASA launched the first Landsat Satellite. It was designed to take provide images of the earth’s land masses. It used a Nimbus platform that was modified to carry sensor systems .... Middle of paper .... captures data in three bands in the following spectral ranges: .50-.59, .61-.68 and .79-.89 micrometers. The three bands are co-registered and have a ground resolution of 20m. The panchromatic mode images data in the spectral range .51-.73 micrometers at a sampling interval of 10m.
