Even though the war on slavery was over in the battle fields, white racists were blood thirsty lions at heart, as was demonstrated in the book Black Boy. The setting of Black Boy is in the deep south of Jackson, Mississippi where whites attempted to tame into submission blacks by hard discipline. Such was the case for Richard in Black Boy, his autobiography. It seemed that the more Richard gained success, the more he was hurt. In Black Boy, Richard is abused by whites because .....

Being as young as he was, he always thought that God delivered babies. After Brian witnessed his very first birth, that of a rabbit, he became very confused and curious about what and how it happened. The man Celie calls “Mister” gained a lot of power, strength, and almightiness by playing the part of husband to her. He was always in control of the situation and always had control over Celie. Finally, the consequence of the prejudice in this novel were uplifting. The black women finally take control of their own lives, mainly Celie, and show the other black men that they can be just as strong and powerful a .....

.... through painting his face. By painting his face, Jack suppresses his ego and superego, causing Jack to be capable of acts of violence without having any repercussions. Jack portrays this violence in different ways. First, Jack enjoys hunting because he gets to kill pigs. Often, in Lord of the Flies, Jack is consumed by killing pigs, and desires nothing more. The drive to kill rules his thoughts. In Jacks statement "'We're strong-we hunt! If there's a beast we'll hunt it down. We'll close in and beat and beat and beat-‘"(83), he demonstrates his carnal desire .....

.... and one man is shot in the back by an unknown assailant. Pike escorts a lady out to her brother’s homestead, and a while later the lady’s brother’s estate has been burnt down. Bohlen, a local rancher, was suspected of doing it. Ann, the lady that Pike escorted earlier, was at the house. She had escaped however, and was now on the run. Pike caught up to her and they headed back to the town. Along the way Bohlen attacked the group and killed Eddie and Ann’s brother. Pike and Ann made it back to town and Pike got his revenge on Bohlen, but onl .....

The narrator is telling her ancestors that they need to unite to make any progress. In the passage: “You did not know the Black continent to be reached was you,” she is telling her people, past and present, that the way to achieve their goals is within them (5-7). All the ceremonies including the costumes and poems, songs, etc prove how they are protective of their native culture and heritage. The natives do not trust the european dsecendents, because they took over their lands. All these reasons add up to the fact that the natives are being described in detail in this book. Another good point this book has to make is about nature. Nature can be cruel to us, to the natives, and to the wil .....
