Pied Beauty

This poem seems to have no setting. However, it uses a lot of images that made me think of being outdoors, camping, on a picnic, or looking up at the sky. The poem also has a joyful tone. It also has a little religious insight. It is almost like a prayer, in that the poem gives praise to God, and celebrates his creations.

Langston Hughes

He is known as a figure of hope in the black race's eyes, his poem inspired pride and strngth in most african americans who also struggle with the plight of racism and segregation.
He was very influential, famed authors such as Lorraine Hansberry derived the title to her award winning play A Raisin in the Sun (1959), from one of Hughes poems. He in turn was very influenced by Walt Whitman, and honored him in one of his poems.

Black History, The Piano

This was demonstrated in the conclusion of the play when Bernice faces her denial of the piano and "realizes what she must do" and exercises Sutters ghost by "beginning to play"(106). When Bernice plays the piano she is showing a respect for her family's history and moves past her denial and the ghost's power over the family.

The Intelligence Of Odysseus

The Book Of Sand

He begins to speak to the man seated besides him, and finds out the stranger has the same name, and the same address as he does. When Borges asks the man what year it is, the man answers 1918, even though it is 1969. It is then that the narrator figures out he is talking to the person whom he was fifty-one years earlier. He then tells "the other" him of the future, after which they part, knowing they will never meet like this again.
