Writing Well Chapter 1 Respons
Number of pages: 3 | Number of words: 701.... of the second passage.
Once again, in Hall’s analysis of the narratives of Nina Chan, he seems to be putting too much focus on what is correct, and not enough on what makes an interesting work of literature. The impromptu theme does rely heavily on clichés in the first few sentences; however, the narrative uses so much language in avoiding the clichés that the first six paragraphs in the 13-paragraph essay – close to half of the narrative – are utterly boring and colorless. Furthermore, the “What did I see?” arrangement in paragraphs 4-6 attem .....

hardships and or social barriers. It was not uncommon back then as it is not
uncommon today for Mexican families with minimal work skills to be forced into
the fields to work with their children alongside in hopes of escaping poverty.
For the most part such families remained poverty stricken due to unfair and
illegal wages and work conditions. However irrelevant this all may sound, facing
similar hardships or obstacles will often create a sense of unity among those
who are affected by such conditions. In short, I feel that not only .....

Oedipus Rex (film Vs Text)
Number of pages: 3 | Number of words: 551.... castle are crowded with what seem to be peasants who are obviously in different states of peril. When Oedipus exits the castle into the courtyard to confront the peasants the actor playing the role does an excellent job of portraying the cocky swagger and demeanor that Sophocles seemed to bestow upon him on the page. Although we quickly notice that none of the actors are wearing masks, which would have been the case had this been a production that was taking place in the time of the Ancient Greeks, which brings up another point. There are a large number of actors in this pla .....

Ethan Frome
Number of pages: 4 | Number of words: 971.... Ethan was not always trapped. When he was younger, he actually went to college. “…he [Ethan Frome] had taken a year's course at a technological college at Worcester…” (p. 35) it says in the book. In fact, things were looking his way when his father died. He had to go home and take care of his mother. It would have been very cruel and selfish for him to neglect his sickly mother and stay in school. This was the first instance of Ethan being trapped. No good, honorable son would leave a dying mother all alone, just to help pursue their own goals in life. This may be .....

All Quiet On The Western Front
Number of pages: 2 | Number of words: 341.... goes back to his class to tell the new students about
war, he couldn’t contain himself. His teacher had made war sound
like a great adventure that everyone should experience. When the
boy got up to talk, he told everyone that it was horrible, and
his teacher went crazy. War films that are made now are
certainly anti-wars films (usually), but this film in particular
showed that war was a horrible, horrible thing. The way the
director decided to portray the war scenes suprised me. For the
time the film was made, I didn’t think films were that graphic,
but this o .....
