It's hard to accept that the fishing glories from the past are but a memory for Santiago as he welcomes poverty with humble hands. The phrase "Nobody loves you when you're down and out" depicts the relationship regarding Santiago with the town perfectly. When he was catching great fish and winning arm wrestling matches at local pubs the town could do nothing .....

He tells Dounia that "[Raskolnikov] made a full confession to [Sonia]" (498). It devastates her to discover her brother is a murderer. From there Raskolnikov's mother "heard [Dounia] talking in her sleep" and "understands at least half of it already" (526). Both Sonia and Dounia urge Raskolnikov to confess. He goes for a long walk and decides he "[wants] to end it all" (526). After care .....

But not Mr. Oakhurst, he just gave him a swift kick in the stomach. That to me shows the utmost courage in the world. Another one of John’s traits is that he is overwhelmingly modest. Mr. Oakhurst’s modesty is proven numerous times in this short story by Brett Harte. One of those times is when John puts the death card on the tree, he doesn’t boast about dying while trying to save a life. He simply states that he ran out of luck on a ce .....

All he could focus on was his need for the money, his quest to find the money, and his escape with all the money. Godfrey Cass was narrow-minded. Godfrey had abandoned Eppie when she was about 2 years old. When he saw what a lovely, young lady Eppie .....

When we are in pain, or are hurting we don't like to show it, because of our human nature we try to cover up our pain. An example of this is when the author is describing the telenovas, "But passion in its purest crystalline essence. The kind the books and songs and telenovelas describe when one finds, finally, the great love of one's life, and does whatever one can, must do, at whatever .....

.... wants more attention placed on his current idea. The narrator’s viewpoint towards life in this poem is quite different from how most people see it. Where he writes, “In a field / I am the absence / of field.” (ll. 1-3) instead of acknowledging his existence as something, he regards it as a lack of something. This negativity towards himself is what the entire poem is focused on. He uses the idea that when his body enters an area the parts of that area are momentarily interrupted and are forced around him, just waiting to return back to normal once he leaves: .....
