Drug Legalization
Number of pages: 5 | Number of words: 1225.... arguments to
legalize or decriminalize drugs. The solution to the drug problem is not to
repeal the drug laws. The solution requires commitment to a balanced effort on
drug education , prevention , treatment, and law enforcement. Softening our
drug laws would be a major mistake. Research and data clearly shows the
problem is not drug prohibition , but drug use. When drugs are cheap and
easily accessible , more people will use them. It is a frightening scenario
that envisions more of our citizens, both juveniles and adults, using mind -
altering substances that not .....

The Death Penalty
Number of pages: 8 | Number of words: 1980.... penalty: It ruled that the
penalty "does not invariably violate the Constitution" if administered in a
manner designed to guard against arbitrariness and discrimination. Several
states promptly passed or reenacted capital punishment laws.
Thirty-seven states now have laws authorizing the death penalty, as does the
military. A dozen states in the Middle West and Northeast have abolished
capital punishment, two in the last century (Michigan in 1847, Minnesota in
1853). Alaska and Hawaii have never had the death penalty. Most executions have
taken place in the states of th .....

Freedom Of Speech: Censorship On The Internet
Number of pages: 8 | Number of words: 2186.... sexual topics all run the risk of offending someone, somewhere, leading to demands for control of the Internet. The question of censorship may also be raised in some unexpected places: one newsgroup is the rec.humor list, which is a collection of jokes submitted to subscribers. There are straightforwardly rude jokes but others are politically incorrect, focusing on sexual stereotypes, mothers-in-law, women and so on. It has been suggested (Interpersonal Computing and Technology, 1994) that discretionary warning labels could be attached to potentially offensive material. W .....

Capital Punishment Deters Murder, And Is Just Retribution
Number of pages: 2 | Number of words: 374.... of the death penalty feel that offenders should be
punished for their crimes, and that it does not matter whether it will deter the
crime rate. Supporters of the death penalty are in favour of making examples
out of offenders, and that the threat of death will be enough to deter the crime
rate, but the crime rate is irrelevant.
According to Isaac Ehrlich's study, published on April 16, 1976, eight
murders are deterred for each execution that is carried out in the U.S.A. He
goes on to say, "If one execution of a guilty capital murderer deters the murder
of one .....

Drug Abuse
Number of pages: 4 | Number of words: 1024.... society for many different reasons..
Drugs have very harmful effects on the user and the people with
whom the user interacts. The user is affected in many ways. The most
popular drug in America, alcohol, is generally thought of as socially
acceptable and relatively harmless. But it can have devastating effects.
Alcohol might seem very harmless but it can harm the user very easily.
Alcohol is easy to obtain and consume. It is taken as a beverage and,

effects on the user are relaxation and a .....

The Death Penalty Is An Inappropriate Punishment That Must Be Abolished
Number of pages: 9 | Number of words: 2467.... increasingly more popular and widely used in the United States. Ever since the death penalty was ruled constitutional again in 1976, the rate of executions per year has risen tremendously fast, especially in the last few years. There were no more than 30 executions nationwide in a single year until 1992, and that number jumped up to 74 in 1997 (“Execution” n.pag.). These 74 executions in the 38 states in which capital punishment is legal are the most in any one year since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976 (Lane n.pag.). So far in 1998, there have been 62 execut .....
