Jazz And Classical Music
Number of pages: 7 | Number of words: 1741.... The
classical period of music actually spans a time from of 1750 to 1800; thus, the
term Classical is a misnomer and could more correctly be changed to Western Art
Music or European Art Music. European because most of the major composers up
till the 20th century were European. Vivaldi was Italian, Bach was German,
Mozart and Beethoven were Austrian; they are some of the more prominent
composers. Not until the twentieth century with Gershwin and a few others do we
find American composers writing this kind of art music. For the sake of
convention, we can refer to Western A .....

The Ideals Of Instrumental Music
Number of pages: 4 | Number of words: 850.... mode of expression, and the strong literary
orientation of the 19th century, was resolved in the conception of program
music. Program music, as Liszt and others in the 19th century used the term,
is music associated with poetic, descriptive, and even narrative subject
matter. This is done not by means of musical figures imitating natural sounds
and movements, but by imaginative suggestion. Program music aimed to absorb
and transmit the imagined subject matter in such a way that the resulting work,
although "programmed", does not sound forced, and transcends the subject mat .....

Number of pages: 4 | Number of words: 967.... addiction. Her personal boundaries have been invaded and she wants out
of the habit, "I'm gonna kick tomorrow…". She goes through depression and
withdrawal, "She gets mad/And she starts to cry." Then the songs continues by
talking about loneliness. Drug addiction is often the background for much of
the music in today's society. People tend to idolize famous people and when
they see or hear of their idols using drugs or drinking they follow the actions
of the famous people. Another song in which I am going to discuss is written by
The Smashing Pumpkins. "Tonight, toni .....

Tone In Music
Number of pages: 2 | Number of words: 420.... it? Its usually the tone, either its soft, hard etc. What makes music soft and hard, is the tone in correlation with the manner in which it is presented. For example compare the tones in the instrumental pieces Canyon and Beethoven's 5th symphony. In Canyon, the tone throughout the piece is upbeat and high-strung, very forceful in intensity. Beethoven's symphony number 5 on the other hand is totally the opposite, in which the tone is characterized to be mellow and soft. These contrasting tones serve to identify with the listener. The composers aim to make a piece of music at a .....

Industrial Music
Number of pages: 3 | Number of words: 561.... keyboarder and guitarist of the band is Trent
Reznor. For the past two years, Trent has been the artist of the year in Spin
magazine and NIN has been the number two band of the year. In 1994, Nine Inch
Nails was announced MTV's band of the year. This was a great honor because MTV
spends most of it's time with rap and hip-hop. When NIN's first album came out
in 1989, it was mostly rock and roll with a techno twist, containing songs full
of depressing, suicidal lyrics. Then as the next two albums arose, Trent
became more evil with his music, using machines and pretty much an .....

Music Therapy: Can It Help Anyone?
Number of pages: 7 | Number of words: 1766.... is as old as the writings of Aristotle and Plato, according to E. Thayer Gaston. But the professional use of it in the 20th century began after WWI and WWII when musicians would go to the Veteran's hospitals around the country to play for the thousands suffering from the emotional and the physical trauma of the wars. There were notable responses in many of the patients, which led the hospitals to hire musicians to play all the time. It was soon clear that the hospital musicians needed training before entering the facility and the demand grew for college curri .....

The Clifford Ball

lanterns, bug torches, and clothes. At around 12 midnite Friday morning we hit
the road and embarked, on what would be a scared trip. Tom drove the van with
his brother and myself. Tim in his red Festiva with Joe and Sean, and Beau in
his blue Festiva with Alex. Stopping only to piss and re-fuel, we busted up to
Plattsburg, arriving around 6am. It was amazing to see all the VW Westvalias up
I-87 with Steal you Face, and dancing bear stickers. Once arriving, we picked a
spot to set camp (out of the Wetlands of course) We followed the lead of
crick .....
