.... everyone can understand. The way Zinsser writes the essay it is easy to understand. He uses everyday words not dictionary words. No one wants to read an essay that every other word they have to stop and go look it up because they do not know the meaning. This causes the reader to become frustrated and they also tend to loose interest. There are too many other options presented to people today that already stray them away from reading. By asking questions in the essay it keeps the readers attention. In the essay Zinsser asks, "Who is this elusive creature, the reader?" .....

.... is dry and barren of plantlife. The ground looks as if there has been no rain for quite some time. There are hills in the distance that have a whitish color as the sun radiates on them. The woman said, "They look like white elephants."(343) White elephants are known to symbolize unexpected gifts, which is certainly what the baby would be should they choose not to have the abortion. The barrenness of the land refers the tame life-- settling down and having the responsibilities of parenthood--that they would have to start living when the baby came; a life that would be .....

.... At the young age that Johnny was at, and to face death, it must have took a lot of courage to stay positive. Johnny kept fighting, determined to recuperate, even if he had to do things himself. "I watched him give himself a hypodermic injection of liver extract on the side above the hip, an awkward place to reach. I could not possibly have done on anybody, let alone myself." (p77) Johnny, had to take hypodermic injections, and were more than painful, and gave himself the shots. That shows the courage he has, to give himself painful injections that his dad wouldn’t be able t .....

.... by whites. Then later Bigger responds by saying, "Maybe they right in not wanting us to fly, 'cause it I took a plane up I'd take a couple bombs along and drop'em sure as hell..." By saying this Bigger reflects the feeling that he feels frustrated and angry with the whites for how they cna simply deny them certain opportunities. This also proves something of hes attitude and his emotions toward white society, in that he knows the boundaries set between the race of whites and blacks. Fear represents an even larger factor in the definition of his personality in the instance .....

.... that Plath uses in her poetry is the metaphor. An example of one lies within the first stanza of Daddy. Any more, black shoe In which I have lived like a foot For thirty years, poor and white Barely daring to breathe or Achoo. Here the persona uses the simile "like a foot" to compare herself to a foot. Metaphorically she is describing how she has had to live her life without her father, entrapped in black sadness like how a foot is tightly enclosed within a shoe. The reader is positioned to see that life can become very grim growing up without an important figure in a pe .....

.... and others don't. At this point, the reader sees that Gorman is being very sarcastic and bitter towards physicians who mare share this view. In paragraph three, Gorman attempts to make an analogy between other professions and related obligations. In essence, the analogy equates the amount of money and personal taste one may have, with the level of care and/or attention one deserves. The analogy appears to be very inappropriate at first, however, this may be exactly what Gorman is trying to point out, making the reader more sympathetic to the thesis. Gorman begins to tou .....
