Tom Clancy
Number of pages: 5 | Number of words: 1317.... when America’s finest tank and infantry units went on exercises in Germany fully armed with the expectation that the Russians could attack them at any time. This was also a time when the Soviets did the same exercises with the same amount of live ammunition. Therefore there was reason enough to worry about potential conflicts. Deep within the ocean waters, submarines played similar cat and mouse games with other submarines and surface ships. However some of these submarines were more dangerous then a whole army because they were fully loaded with nuclear missles. These facts .....

Cloudstreet, Tim Winton
Number of pages: 5 | Number of words: 1176.... known as Fish. While for the Pickles, it occurs with the loss of Sam’s (the father’s) fingers in a fishing accident. The reader can relate these events it to the biblical story of ‘Samson,’ and how he gained his strength through his hair. Meaning that by losing some of their strengths, (like Samson’s hair cut,) both Sam’s where able to gain new insights and opportunities. For Sam Pickles, this meant the move into the city from the outback, brought him his own home and a steady job at the mint. A rather large irony, as Sam is a compulsive gambler, more often than not short .....

Ethan Frome
Number of pages: 3 | Number of words: 795.... saying, ‘The winter morning was clear as a crystal. The sunrise burned red in a pure sky, the shadows on the rim of the wood-lot were darkly blue, and beyond the white scintillating fields of far-off forest hung like smoke.’(pg.41) It also seems that whenever Mattie is around, Ethan’s view of the world improves. This is shown on his walk home from the church social with Mattie when the narration states, ‘The night was so still that they heard the frozen snow crackle beneath their feet. The crash of a loaded branch falling far off in the woods reverberated like a musket-s .....

Roger And Me
Number of pages: 2 | Number of words: 413.... his point of view, and bored me out of my mind. That couldn’t be any farther from the truth. I found myself drawn into the story that Michael presented. He used comedy to pick up some slower parts and good camera angles to keep my attention on the screen.
As for Story and Characters Moore once again used text book accuracy and added his twist. He picked a few characters and used them through out the film. This is something that kept the audience from getting confused. I think a lot of filmmakers screw up by introducing too many characters. For example, the sheriff de .....

Antony Has Been Described As "
Number of pages: 7 | Number of words: 1837.... killed by the side of the noble Caesar. "If I myself, there is no hour so fit As Caesar's death's hour" "No place will please me so, no mean of death, As here by Caesar" this shows that he holds Caesar as a very noble man, and that he loved him.
However, Antony then appears to make friends with the conspirators when he addresses them after Caesars death "Friends I am with you all, and love you all". Here Antony shows true deceit, for Antony is not their friend, but rather their enemy. "Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood!" and pronounces that he will create war among .....

Once A Warrior King - Review
Number of pages: 3 | Number of words: 784.... very little about the war. Understanding this puts anti-war protests in perspective; the American people could not envision the death and mutilation of children.
American intentions in Vietnam were muddled, thus forces were misguided and outcomes were unfavorable. Originally the American presence in South Vietnam was mainly to push for the social betterment of the Vietnamese people. Soon however, an offensive stance was required in the face of socialist expansion into the region. America feared that communist control of Vietnam would tip the balance of world power in Ru .....

Fuch's "The American Way Of Families": Is The Dream Really As Sweet As Apple Pie?
Number of pages: 5 | Number of words: 1168.... it is impossible to worship a being and try
to overcome that being at the same time. Whether it involves fighting to be on
top in the workplace or playing dirty to win a sporting event; almost all
Americans have the fire burning within them that compels them to reach their
goal or self satisfaction. In reading The American Way of Families, it occured
to me that the struggle for pleasing one's own self existed even in the family.
I don't think that after reading this piece that anyone can deny the
existence of this urge in themselves. The urge exists in every form. No m .....

Jon Donne - Alediction Forbidd
Number of pages: 4 | Number of words: 1066.... is tied together by an " a - b - a - b" rhyme scheme. This is not surprising because of the calming effect expected of this poem. The steady back and forth motion of the rhyme calms down the reader, much as a hug that rocks you back and forth calms you. This poem's purpose is to offer peace to those who read it. The steady use of rhyme provides a rhythmic, serene environment. In addition to a well-developed rhyme scheme, Donne employs very few end stops. The only time periods are used is to end a stanza, all other line breaks are handled by commas or no punctuatio .....
